In Kasura

A deposit in Kasura is an amount or item held as security for a booking, existing to give the business financial recourse against damage, loss or unpaid fees discovered when the asset comes back. At return (for vehicles) or check-out (for accommodation), the deposit is resolved through exactly one of three paths: it can be returned to the customer in full, partially deducted to cover specific costs, or kept entirely. A deposit type records how the security was originally taken — cash, a held passport, a held ID, or explicitly no deposit at all for businesses that choose not to require one. Whenever a deduction or full retention occurs, Kasura requires staff to record a reason, which supports justifying the decision later if the customer disputes it. This resolution process is always driven by staff judgment; Kasura does not automatically assess damage or decide how much of a deposit to withhold — that determination is made by the person handling the return or check-out, informed by the condition notes and photos captured during the process. The deposit concept is distinct from Kasura's own SaaS billing: a deposit is money or an item the rental operator holds from their own customer, while SaaS billing is what the operator separately pays Kasura for platform access.

Not to be confused with

That a deposit resolution is automatic or purely system-driven; every deduction or retention requires a staff-entered reason.
